Tech Buzz News | EVject Introduces Improved EV Charging Connector
Tech Buzz News had a conversation with our team to explore the phenomenon regarding electric vehicle (EV) adoption and the concern for driver safety at charging stations, where unique vulnerabilities arise.
Unlike gas-powered vehicles, EVs are immobilized while charging, leaving drivers unable to drive away in emergencies. These stations are often in poorly lit or isolated areas, contributing to driver concern of crime and unsafe situations. Recognizing this gap EVject co-founders, Amanda Richards and Kreg Peeler, developed a solution. The EVject is a breakaway charging connector that allows EV drivers to quickly disconnect and escape without leaving their vehicles. Starting as a response to a personal safety incident, EVject quickly gained traction, generating $250,000 in early sales and now offering models compatible with all EVs.
EVject’s success attracted widespread attention, including support from the Tesla community and interest from major automakers. A high-profile lawsuit, alleging trademark infringement and overheating issues, ultimately boosted EVject's visibility after the case was dropped in September. Meanwhile, Richards and Peeler scaled production to meet demand, increasing capacity to 30,000 units per month.
Beyond individual drivers, companies and rental car providers adopting electric vehicle fleets and are exploring EVject to enhance safety for employees and customers. With its “Don’t Be a Sitting Duck” awareness campaign and ongoing industry partnerships, EVject has established itself as a crucial innovation for EV safety, empowering drivers to stay secure in increasingly electrified transportation landscapes.
